Home MenuFood Scrap Recycling Pledge
The Town of Glastonbury has expanded its food scrap recycling program! Residents can now bring ALL food scraps to the Food Scrap Drop-off Site at the Transfer Station or the Satellite Recycling Container located behind Town Hall. This program goes beyond backyard composting as ALL food scraps are accepted. Acceptable items include: fruits & vegetables; meat, fish, dairy, bread, rice, pasta, raw and cooked foods, plants, napkins, paper towels, and parchment paper. The material is then brought to an anaerobic digester where it is turned into clean energy and soil!
How does it work?
- Step 1: Collect food scraps & paper products in a countertop pail, using BPI Certified compostable bags.
- Step 2: Store food scraps in a storage and transportation bin.
- Step 3: Bring your storage and transportation bin to the Transfer Station or Satellite site and deposit in the designated container.
How do I start?
You will need a countertop pail designed for food waste recycling, along with compostable bags (available at Whole Foods and other retailers.) Although they are not required for participation, the Town has a number of "starter kits" available free of charge to residents on a first come, first served basis. To retrieve your starter kit, please submit the pledge below, and then visit the Sanitation office or Customer Service Center in Town Hall during regular business hours.
