Communications Mission Statement
The Glastonbury Police Department’s Communications Unit strives to provide professional, efficient, and timely responses to requests for service. No matter how great or minor the emergency, our goal is to strive for excellence in the field of Public Safety through emergency communications. We will move forward in the pursuit of perfection through dedication, sincerity and education.
THE DISPATCHERS
When a citizen calls 911 or a routine telephone line for assistance, they will reach a dispatcher. Emergency service dispatchers staff the Glastonbury Police Department Communications Center 24/7/365, answering calls for service for Glastonbury and East Hampton police, fire, and ambulance. Dispatchers evaluate every call for assistance, determine the level of emergency, and send the appropriate personnel. In a medical emergency, dispatchers are able to provide pre-arrival instructions so that the victim receives immediate assistance, not having to wait for the police and ambulance to arrive.
TIPS WHEN CALLING 911 FOR EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE
- Listen to the dispatcher and answer all questions.
- Speak clearly and calmly.
- Do not hang up until the dispatcher says it okay to do so.
- Provide road, street, and address information.
- Make sure your address is properly marked and clearly visible from the street.
- If you mistakenly dial 911, stay on the line and let the Dispatcher know there is no problem and it was a dialing error.
- Complete our Special Needs Registry form (found in the Forms section) if you have special needs you think the dispatcher should be aware of.
