The Glastonbury Human Relations Commission was constituted in order to serve the residents of Glastonbury in the areas of human relations, discrimination and equal opportunities.
DUTIES:
Among the duties of the Commission are the following:
- To receive and investigate complaints regarding illegal discrimination in the town.
- To encourage and attempt to accomplish voluntary compliance with all laws relating to discrimination and equal opportunities.
- To recommend to the town council ordinances or programs to deal with problems of discrimination as they exist, or to prevent such problems before they arise in the town in situations where there is a real and present likelihood they will arise.
- To work with other town agencies and/or commissions or with private, civic, business and other organizations and groups in presenting educational programs for the purpose of promoting better understanding among groups and persons.
PROCEDURES:
The Commission has developed an official form for the filing of any complaint of discrimination in the town, together with a confidential procedure for the hearing of the specifics of any such complaint and for any action thereon. The complaint form and a description of such procedure can be obtained from any member of the Commission or at the Glastonbury Human Resources Department .
OTHER ACTIVITIES:
The Commission also monitors housing issues in Glastonbury and serves as the overseer of the town’s affirmative action hiring program with respect to municipal employees.
Meetings, Minutes, and Agendas
The Commission cordially invites any Glastonbury resident to attend any of its meetings, which are held on the first Tuesday of April, June, September and December, or to inquire of any Commission member or at the Human Resources Department about any aspect of the Commission’s functions.
