Location: Main Lobby of Glastonbury Police Department (2108 Main Street)
Hours of Operation: 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
A Prescription Medication Drop-Box is now available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in the main lobby of the Glastonbury Police Department. This medication collection and disposal program provides a safe disposal location for citizens to properly dispose of unused and expired household medications. The program provides an environmentally safe alternative to disposing of medications in the landfill or sewer systems, and reduces access to addictive medications for accidental or intentional misuse by children or others in the home.
How does it work?
Citizens may place unwanted or expired prescription medications into the box. We advise you to remove personal identifying information from medications prior to disposal. If you forget this step before arriving, there will also be markers available at the drop-box to black-out your information. Bottles containing liquids must be securely closed before disposal in the drop-box. Instructions for disposal of medications at the drop-box are available here and are also posted at the drop-box location.
The drop box is NOT intended for the commercial disposal of medications from medical facilities, doctor's offices, or veterinarians.
Items that CANNOT be placed into the box, or left at the Police Department, include:
- Syringes
- Epi-pens
- Inhalers
- Items containing mercury
Instructions for proper disposal of the unacceptable items listed above can be viewed here and are also posted at the drop box.
About the Drop-Box
This drop-box is available to the public through the support of East of the River Action for Substance Abuse Elimination (ERASE), the Glastonbury Health Department, Glastonbury Youth & Family Services, and Glastonbury Community Action Partnership (GCAP). The drop box was purchased through a donation by ERASE and the medications will be incinerated at no charge through a prescription take-back program provided by Covanta.
