Buckingham Fire Department

With the Fire Commission’s creation of a fourth fire station in 1965 (Glastonbury Fire Department's Company 4); not only was the town’s fire protection divided into four quadrants, but the name “Buckingham Fire Department” was established. The Buckingham Fire Department identifies the individual company and represents a section of town.

In 1965, the Town of Glastonbury built two new identical fire stations.  Station 3 was relocated to Chestnut Hill Road near Buck’s Corners and Station 4 was established at the intersection of Manchester Road and Hebron Avenue.  With the creation of a fourth fire station, the Fire Commission reassigned the Department’s 1952 LaFrance fire engine from Company 3 to Company 4.

On October 24, 1963, William Bailey was appointed the first Captain at Company 4.  Captain Bailey had the difficult task of recruiting additional members for the newly established fire company.  However, with a few of his veteran firefighters he was able to overcome this obstacle.  Four years after being established Company 4 received a second fire apparatus, a 1967 FMC/Bean pumper.
