The length of employment, hours and starting dates vary depending on the position. Staff are expected to work the entirety of the program. Pre-season training and preparation required for all positions. For more information, contact the Parks & Recreation office at (860) 652-7679. 

Lifeguard II/Swim Instructor

Lifeguard II – Swim Instructor (WSI certification)

Pay Rate $ 18.50/hour

Hours: Varies. Monday – Friday mornings from 5:45-7:10 a.m.  Evenings from 5:15-9:30pm;

Weekends 10:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m. and Sunday 12:00-7:30 p.m.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:   

  • Practice preventative lifeguarding techniques.
  • Enforces rules and regulations governing the conduct of persons using a swimming facility.
  • Safeguards against accidents in the water and surrounding areas.
  • Assist bathers in distress.
  • Collects seasonal pass and daily admission fees and keeps attendance records.
  • Performs general maintenance and custodial duties for safe and healthy operation.
  • Provide instruction to children and adults in accordance to the American Red Cross Learn to Swim program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must possess a valid American Red Cross and Lifeguard Training certificate which include CPR/AED and Standard First Aid certifications. Must have American Red Cross Water safety Instructors Certificate
