Glastonbury, Connecticut 06033
The Veterans Service Commission (VSC) of Glastonbury will hold their Veterans Day Ceremony on Monday, November 11th at the Monuments on the Hubbard Street Green to honor all of our Veterans. It will begin at 11:00 AM.
This year’s Guest Speaker will be Don Longtin, an Army Veteran who was honorably discharged in 1956. Don is a retired Engineer who was the long time President of Glastonbury Little League and currently on their Board of Directors and is a member of Glastonbury Amateur Baseball.
This year’s Ceremony will include patriotic songs by the Glastonbury High School Concert Choir and Treble Choir directed by Dr. Ethan Nash, as well as the Smith Middle School Select Choir directed by Kate Ingram.
Following the ceremony at the Green Monuments, attendees are invited to proceed to Field Number Four at the Riverfront for the Dedication Ceremony for the Field to be renamed Heroes Field. There is a newly erected Monument there honoring Veterans, Police Officers, and members of the Fire Department. During the Ceremony, Don Longtin will speak about what inspired him to spearhead this project.
Following the Ceremony and dedication of Heroes Field, all are invited to Giovanni’s Pizza Restaurant for a light lunch. Giovanni’s is located at 113 Hebron Avenue, Glastonbury.
For anyone who would like to help (Veterans and the citizens of Glastonbury), the Veterans Service Commission of Glastonbury will be at the Glastonbury Veterans Cemetery located at 1341 Neipsic Road (north of and next door to Eastbury School) at 0900 on Friday November 8th. At the cemetery, the VSC will dress all Veterans Graves with Medallions and Flags. All veterans of all branches are invited as well as all Glastonbury citizens. The VSC would like as much help as possible with the dressing of the Veterans Graves. We look forward to seeing many of you there.
