CONNECTICUT DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION - VIRTUAL PUBLIC INFORMATION MEETING
Re: State Project No. 0053-0196, Route 2 Eastbound Lane Modifications from Exit 6 to Exit 8
Town of Glastonbury
September 13, 2023, 7:00 p.m.
Overview
The purpose of this meeting is to provide the community an opportunity to learn about the proposed project and allow an open discussion of any views and comments concerning the proposed improvements. Answer (Q&A) session will immediately follow the presentation.
The purpose of the project is to improve the lane configuration along Route 2 Eastbound (EB) between Exits 6 and 8 to reduce the weaving movements and maintain the continuity of traffic flow. The proposed work for the project will include the following:
- Convert the left, exit-only lane for Route 17 (Exit 7) to a through lane
- Modify Exit 7 to a standard exit ramp (left-exit)
- Modify Bridge No. 00386 (Route 2 over House Street) - partial widening to provide 3-lanes for Route 2 EB
- Widen Bridge No. 00384 (Route 2 over Griswold Street) to a uniform shoulder width
- Modify or replace signs along Route 2 EB to reflect the new lane arrangements
- Mill and pave Route 2 EB within the project limits
All work is anticipated to occur within the State Right-of-Way; however, final sloping limits or construction access may require temporary easements.
Construction is anticipated to begin spring 2025 based on the availability of funding, acquisition of rights of way, and approval of permit(s). The estimated construction cost for this project is approximately $12,000,000. This project is anticipated to be undertaken with 80 percent Federal funds and 20 percent State funds.
