Glastonbury Historical Society presents “The Smith Sisters: Abolitionists and Suffragists”

In Person & Virtual Program for Adults

  • Date: 05/03/2023 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM
  • Location: Welles-Turner Library
    2407 Main Street
    Glastonbury, Connecticut 06033
  • Introduction: Celebrate Women's History Month with the Historical Society of Glastonbury as they teach us about Glastonbury's own Smith Sisters – Abby and Julia.

These elderly spinsters stood up to the townsmen of Glastonbury in their fight to get the right to vote for women, and famously lost their cows in the process.

This presentation takes you deeper into their lives, and the lives of their amazing family. Learn how Abby and Julia become unlikely heroines on the National Woman Suffrage stage and symbols of “taxation without representation.” Join us to hear their story!

Registration is full, join the waiting list online or by calling the library’s Reference Department at 860-652-7720.
