Grand Reopening Celebration at Welles Turner Memorial Library

On Saturday, September 17, the Town of Glastonbury invites the community to gather at the Welles-Turner Memorial Library (WTML) for its Grand Reopening Celebration.

The festivities will begin at 10:00 a.m. with an outdoor ribbon-cutting ceremony, a performance by the Glastonbury String Quartet, and refreshments. Drop-in activities for kids (and visits with Elephant and Piggie!) will also be available all day long. See below for a full schedule of events and Click here to view the event flyer.

Dial-A-Ride: Eligible residents who would like a ride to the Library for the reopening event should call the Town Dial-A-Ride service at (860) 652-7638 by no later than 3:00 PM on Friday, 9/16 to arrange transportation. Requests made on Saturday may not be able to be accommodated. The service will be available between the hours of 10:00 am and 2:00 pm.

Schedule of Events (to be updated as we approach the event date)

  • 10:00 AM - Ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring a performance by the Glastonbury String Quartet (front lawn)
  • 11:00 AM - Family Magic Show by Danny Magic (Commons)
  • 11:30 AM and 2:00 PM - Tour the Library with Library Director Barbara Bailey (meet in front Lobby near Main St. entrance)
  • 1:00 PM - Custom water bottle painting for teens with Pam's Picassos (Maker Space)
  • 3:00 PM - Live music from Cover2Cover, who specialize in high-energy dance music from the 1960s-80s (Commons)
  • All Day long
    • MakerSpace equipment demonstrations
    • Artwork exhibit in the Gallery Room, including work by: Josie Dellenbaugh, Ken Dorros, Ed Hicks, Barbara Jenkins, Jacqueline Jones, and Katherine Simmons
    • Storytimes: 12:45 PM, 1:45 PM, 2:45 PM, 3:45 PM (approximately 20-30 minutes each in the Children's area)
    • Drop-in Kid's activities
    • Visits with Elephant and Piggie - 1:15 PM, 2:15 PM, 3:15 PM and 4:15 PM (Children's area)
    • Scavenger Hunt - Self guided tours through the Library
