Glastonbury Affordable Housing 101: The Housing Authority and Town Government Roles in Making It Happen
Zoom Presentation
- Date: 12/13/2021 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM
- Location: Zoom Presentation
TALK, Truth in Action with Love & Kindness, invites you on Monday, December 13th at 6:30 p.m. to a free Zoom presentation, “Glastonbury Affordable Housing 101: the Housing Authority’s and Town Government’s Roles in Making It Happen.”
Carl Stenman, Chairman of the Housing Authority of the Town of Glastonbury Commissioners, will provide an overview of the Housing Authority’s rental housing mission, oversight, staffing, budget, and portfolio of properties; and discuss how low-income tax credits and a housing trust fund might be used to expand affordable housing.
Neil Griffin, Executive Director of the Housing Authority, will discuss the Housing Authority’s role in acquiring property and developing and/or rehabilitating affordable and assisted housing, with Center Village as an example; how the Housing Authority runs its properties and accepts applications; and how Section 8 vouchers might be used be to move into Glastonbury.
Rebecca Augur, Director of Glastonbury Planning & Land Use Services will outline the roles of the Community Development – Planning & Environmental division and other town agencies in reviewing and approving residential development projects; and explain how the public can provide input on affordable housing matters.
This is a free event.

This event is timely because the Town Council-appointed Affordable Housing Steering Committee has drafted an affordable housing plan for Glastonbury, and will host a public meeting in January on the draft, before sending it to Town Council for review and approval. A 2017 Connecticut public law requires all towns to have plans in place by July 2022 that specify how they intend to increase their affordable housing developments. In addition, over the upcoming months, the Town Council will be considering whether some of the $10.2 million in American Rescue Plan Act monies to be awarded Glastonbury should be used for affordable housing.
If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail TALK Social Justice Committee Co-chairs Pam Lucas at music5swim@cox.net and Anne Bowman at Abbowman@gmail.com.
