Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Event

- Location: 324 Olcott Street
Manchester, Connecticut
Directions: From Route 384 East to Exit 1, Spencer St., left on Spencer at 4th traffic signal take left onto Olcott St., facility on left. Olcott St. is at the intersection with Hartford Rd.
Requirements
Please bring the following documents to the collection event for expedited service:
- Proof of Residency (driver's license, tax bill or vehicle registration)
Accepted Materials
This is your opportunity to safely dispose of acids, insecticides, herbicides, fertilizers, chemicals, household cleaning products, and other hazardous materials which may have accumulated at your home. Please leave all materials in original containers.
COVID-19 Guidelines
In an effort to allow for the collection of household hazardous waste (HHW) during the ongoing pandemic and ensure the safety of our customers and staff members, the following modified guidelines will be strictly enforced. Questions may be directed to the Refuse Disposal Division at sanitationclerk@glastonbury-ct.gov or (860) 652-7772. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
At the Collection Event
- Only 1 person per vehicle permitted.
- No trailers or work vans will be allowed.
- Face coverings must be worn at all times
- Attendees must remain in their vehicle at all times.
- Vehicles will be approached from the passenger’s side.
- Attendees must show a license through the window for Town verification.
- HHW items must be in the rear of your vehicle. Vehicles shall have a remote trunk/gate mechanism or have compartment open prior to vehicle inspection.
- All paperwork will be done by on site staff from the outside of the vehicle the day of collection. No use of pre-printed online forms.
- HHW shall be in disposable container(s). NO CONTAINERS WILL BE RETURNED. For example, old gasoline must be in a disposal container
- All paint shall be separated from other HHW material. This will allow staff to process vehicles more efficiently.
DO NOT BRING:
- Used oil and anti-freeze are NOT accepted. These items may be brought the Transfer Station
- Paints can be disposed conveniently anytime through the statewide recycling program. Locations and details at paintcare.org. Dried-out paint or empty paint containers can be disposed of in regular trash. Do not bring to this collection event.
- Asbestos Waste will NOT be accepted
Paint Recycling
Residents can conveniently dispose of Oil and Latex paint and stain products for free year-round at disposal sites that participate in Connecticut's PaintCare program. Visit http://paintcare.org for more information. Locally Katz Hardware, 2687 Main Street, and Sherwin-Williams Paint Store, 2945 Main Street, are participants in the program and materials can be brought to their Glastonbury facilities as well. Please note, there is a 5 gallon maximum limit per visit.
