Event List
CANCELLED - work finished (Rt 17 Median Gardens Fall Maintenance w/GPIP)
Day 2 of 3 Day Project
- Date: 11/06/2019 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM
- Location: Rt 17 & Main Street (park in the drive to the Shipman Nursery off Buttonball)
Update - 11/6/2019 - 9:00 am - EVENT CANCELLED FOR TODAY
The Nov 6th event has been cancelled because the team finished the work yesterday. Thank you to all who helped with this project!
Location: Rt 17 & Main Street.
Please park in the drive to the Shipman Nursery off Buttonball. Grab an orange safety vest on your way across the street.
GPIP is organizing a 3 day cleanup of the Rt 17 median on the following days:
#1 Date: Nov 5th, Tuesday (Election Day)
Time: 8:30 am - 10:30 am (let's get up and going after voting early)
#2 Date: Nov 6th, Wednesday
Time: 2:00 pm - 4:00pm (finishing up what we started on Day 1)
#3 Date: Nov 16th, Saturday
Time: 9:00am - 11:00am (paper and mulch day)
Chores: Fall cutback of perennials and roses. Come when you can; stay as long as you like.
Tools: gloves, hand clippers, hedge clippers, personal water.
Following suggestions from volunteers; let's try weekday morning and afternoon as well as a Saturday morning. Remember we set the clocks back on Sunday Nov 3rd so evening gardening is out until spring.
With a good crew we will make quick work of cutting back the perennials and roses in preparation for winter. This is the first day of a 3 day project. On this first day, we will start with the south island as it's the most work. On Day #2 we'll continue with the north island. With a great crew on Day#1 we may not need a Day #2! On Day #3 we will do weed prevention under the roses on the south island by spreading a thick layer of newspaper topped with mulch. We'll be using bagged mulch which is easier to manage around the roses.
My heartfelt thanks go out to everyone; none of this happens without a terrific team of volunteers. Be proud of our lovely gardens. This is how we keep Glastonbury beautiful!
