It’s the character who first taps a reader on the shoulder. Writers shape the characters by adding habits, gestures and obstacles. Author Lisa C. Taylor teaches students of all ages, helping them to take that first good idea to a completed work. In an atmosphere of respect and humor, you'll learn how writers put a character through necessary paces so that he or she reveals both flaws and humanity. The world of the story is the world of the imagination. By tapping into that imagination, stories — and the writers behind them — can flourish. You will have an opportunity for questions and for sharing. Seating is limited, so registration is requested and begins January 7, online or at the Reference Desk at 860-652-7720.

Lisa C. Taylor is the author of a variety of short fiction and poetry collections, including Impossibly Small Spaces (2018), Growing a New Tail (2013) and Necessary Silence (2013). Some of Lisa’s honors include the 2015 Hugo House New Works Award for short fiction, an L.L. Winship PEN New England nomination, Pushcart nominations in both fiction and poetry, a Best Indie Lit of New England nomination and, along with Geraldine Mills, the Elizabeth Shanley Gerson Lecture of Irish Literature at University of Connecticut in 2011. Her poetry and fiction have appeared in numerous literary magazines and anthologies. Her books have been taught in college classes and recommended on the Faith Middleton book show on NPR. Lisa teaches writing classes at Eastern Connecticut State University and offers private mentoring and workshops.}
