Glastonbury's 325th Anniversary Celebration

In recognition of the town’s 325th anniversary, Glastonbury will host a celebratory community event on Sunday, September 16th at Riverfront Park.*  The program will run from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and will include live music, food trucks, lawn games, riverfront outings coordinated through the L.L. Bean Adventure program, farmers market, and activities for all ages.  Town staff are collaborating with a number of local organizations and volunteers to plan and execute the event and community support has been overwhelmingly positive.

The program will be entirely funded through the generous donations of community members, and Glastonbury is greatly appreciative to those who have already contributed.  Residents and businesses looking to donate to the anniversary event may make checks payable to the ‘Town of Glastonbury’ with “325th anniversary” written in the memo line.  All donations should be sent to the address below, and donors will receive an acknowledgment letter for tax purposes.

Glastonbury is in discussions with regional vendors to determine the feasibility of a fireworks display at the event, which will be pursued if fundraising goals are achieved.  A goal of $25,000 has been established for the event, including the fireworks display, and over $10,000 has been collected thus far towards that budget.  A goal thermometer has been installed at the Boathouse entrance of Riverfront Park which will reflect ongoing fundraising progress.  Community members who are interested in contributing to, or sponsoring the fireworks program specifically may contact Glastonbury Town Manager, Richard J. Johnson, to discuss further.

Periodic updates regarding fundraising activities and additional program information will be posted to the town website at www.glastonbury-ct.gov/325 as available. (In the event that funds are raised in excess of those necessary to execute the event as outlined, such excess will be allocated to future events that benefit the community overall).  Residents are also encouraged to follow the Town on Facebook or subscribe to the “What’s Happening in Glastonbury” category under the News heading of the Town’s eNotification system for real-time updates on event activities.

Glastonbury extends its sincere thanks and appreciation to all who have donated thus far and to those who will contribute in the coming weeks. The 325th anniversary is a significant town milestone and this event will provide a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together in celebration of Glastonbury’s past, present, and future.
